Resume for Mercadona: how to send it so it reads right

Dopplio TeamNovember 1, 2026 · 8 min read

To send your resume to Mercadona, you have one route: create your profile on its Job Portal, from "Trabaja con nosotros" (Work with us) at mercadona.es. Mercadona does not handle applications by phone, email, social media or its contact form, and it does not collect resumes in store. When you register, you can attach your CV as a PDF and the portal fills in your profile with what it reads from it, so the file format matters more than you might expect.

In short
  • The only way to work at Mercadona is to create your profile on its Job Portal.
  • Handing in your resume in person, or sending it by mail or social media, does not work.
  • The portal can fill in your profile by reading your CV in PDF: upload it in a single column and check each field afterward.
  • You don't need to apply to a specific job: if your profile matches an opening, they will contact you. Keep it 100% complete.

How to send your resume to Mercadona, step by step

Since July 2025 Mercadona has used a new job portal. The difference from the previous one matters: before, you had to apply job by job and re-enter your details each time. Now you create one profile that stays active, and the company keeps it on its radar for all its openings. Mercadona itself explained this when it launched the portal.

  1. Go to mercadona.es and click "Trabaja con nosotros" (Work with us). It takes you to the Job Portal (mercadona.avature.net).
  2. Click "Crea tu perfil" (Create your profile). The portal offers three ways to do it:
    • From your CV in PDF: you attach the file and the portal fills in the details automatically.
    • Manual registration: you fill in every field by hand.
    • With LinkedIn: you import the data from your profile.
  3. Set your preferences: working hours, contract type, location and area (Tiendas (Stores), Bloques Logísticos (Logistics hubs), Mercadona Online, Mercadona IT or Oficinas (Offices)).
  4. Complete your profile to 100%. The portal itself notes that only with a complete profile can its team offer you the roles that best fit you.
  5. Track your application in "Mi Perfil" (My Profile). There you can see the openings you have applied to and the status of each one.

The field for attaching a CV accepts .pdf, .doc, .docx and .txt files. The auto-fill option refers to "tu CV en .pdf" (your CV in .pdf), so the PDF is the format to have ready.

Can you hand in your resume in person at Mercadona?

No. This is exactly the question Mercadona answers in its FAQ: the only way to work with them is to create your candidate profile on the Job Portal. Leaving your resume in a store's box, bringing it to the head office or mailing it does not put you into any hiring process.

It makes sense: with the new portal, Mercadona says it has every registered profile "on its radar" to contact anyone who fits an opening. A paper copy in a store is not on that radar.

Why your PDF format matters in Mercadona's portal

Mercadona's portal runs on Avature, a candidate management software (you can see it in the address itself, mercadona.avature.net). When you choose to fill in your profile from your CV, that software opens your PDF, extracts the text and sorts it into fields: name, contact details, experience, education.

That is where the risk is. A PDF reader does not see your resume the way you do. It reads the text layer in the order the file was built, and the flashier templates (two columns, sidebar, icons, text boxes, photo in the header) are the ones that come out worst from that reading. The full mechanism is explained in whether the ATS reads columns and tables.

A fictional example (the data is made up): a shop assistant from Valencia whose CV uses a two-column Canva template, with skills and languages in the left sidebar and experience on the right.

The name appears in the middle of the text, the phone and email come at the end, and the section titles arrive together with nothing under them. If the portal fills in your profile from that reading, you have to correct it field by field, or your profile ends up with data in the wrong places.

If you already have your CV in a template like that, you don't need to redo it: the Dopplio ATS converter takes your PDF and returns the same content in a single column, with real text and standard sections. It doesn't rewrite anything; it changes the layout. Then, when you create your Mercadona profile, still check each field before saving: no import system is perfect.

Two more details for the file you upload:

  • No photo in the header. The photo adds no text, and the layout around it usually scrambles the rest. We explain this in resume with or without a photo.
  • PDF with selectable text. If you can't select the words when you move the mouse over them, it is an image and there is nothing to read. The difference between formats is covered in resume in PDF or Word.

Which areas you can choose at Mercadona

The Job Portal groups openings into five areas, the same ones you pick as a preference in your profile:

  • Tiendas (Stores)
  • Bloques Logísticos (Logistics hubs)
  • Mercadona Online
  • Mercadona IT
  • Oficinas (Offices)

Each opening details the role, the location and the conditions. Check the one in your area before you choose.

If you are studying a technology degree and are in your final year, Mercadona has an internship program at Mercadona IT, listed on the portal as "Programa Prácticas IMPULSA" (IMPULSA Internship Program). According to its FAQ, it is the internship program it currently has open.

No openings near you: what to do

You don't have to wait for one to be posted. Mercadona publishes openings based on each area's needs, but its Human Resources team contacts registered people whose profile matches an opening, whether or not they have applied to a specific job. It says so in its FAQ and in the presentation of the portal.

What does depend on you is keeping your profile up to date: correct working hours and location preferences, current experience, and a complete profile. The portal itself notes that only with a 100% complete profile can they offer you the roles that best fit you.

What Mercadona values in an application

Mercadona does not publish a list of general requirements. Its FAQ explains that what matters is the ability to do the job and that your personality fits its culture and values; its portal highlights three: humility, effort and trust. The specific requirements for each role appear in each opening.

For your resume, that means being specific. "Hardworking and responsible person" says nothing; "covered weekend shifts during two summer campaigns" or "served about 200 customers per shift at the checkout" does. Write what you did, with figures when you have them, and don't invent anything you couldn't talk about in an interview.

Are you also applying to other companies?

The same single-column CV works for other companies' portals too. We have guides on how to send your resume to Inditex (Zara and the rest of the group's brands) and on how to send your resume to Consum.

Frequently asked questions

How do I send my resume to Mercadona?

Create your profile on the Job Portal, from "Trabaja con nosotros" (Work with us) at mercadona.es. You can complete it from your CV in PDF, by hand or with LinkedIn. It is the only route: Mercadona does not handle applications by phone, email, social media or contact form.

Can I leave my resume at a Mercadona store?

No. Mercadona states that the only way to work with them is the candidate profile on its Job Portal. A paper resume does not enter its selection processes.

What resume format does Mercadona's portal accept?

The attachment field accepts .pdf, .doc, .docx and .txt, and the option to fill in your profile automatically uses your CV in PDF. It is best that this PDF is in a single column with selectable text, so the portal reads the data in order. If yours has columns or a sidebar, you can convert it to ATS format for free with Dopplio.

Do I have to apply to a specific job for them to call me?

No. If you have a profile created, Mercadona contacts you when an opening matches it, even if you have not applied to any job. Keep your profile complete and up to date.

How do I check the status of my application at Mercadona?

In your Job Portal profile, under "Mi Perfil" (My Profile), you can see the openings you have applied to and the status of each application.

Does Mercadona offer internships?

Its internship program is currently at Mercadona IT and is aimed at university students in their final year of technology degrees. It is listed on the portal as "Programa Prácticas IMPULSA" (IMPULSA Internship Program).
